Prep T&F: Buchanan breaks meet record

The Harrisburg High School girls' track and field team turned in four first-place finishes at the Carmi-White County Invite Wednesday.<br />The highlight of the day came from Harrisburg junior Bryleigh Buchanan who not only set a personal record, but shattered the meet record with a winning jump of 5-feet-7.5 in the high jump.<br />The 400 meter relay finished first with a time of 52.7. The 800 meter relay also finished first with a time of 1:52.2 and was made up of the same 400 meter team. Finally the 1600 meter relay team was first with a time of 4:24.3. Those relay team consisted of Bryleigh Buchanan, Franchesca Laurencio, Victoria Thai and Boyles.<br />In the 100 meter dash, Kierra Boyles had a time of 15.9, while Maddie Johnson finished her 800 meter run in a time of 3:13. In the 400 meter dash, Shaun Ballard had a time of 1:13.7 and in the 200 meter dash, Aniha Taborn turned in a time of 32.6.<br />In the field events, Hannah Finley had a second place showing in the shot put, with a toss of 33-feet-2. Makayla McBrian had a throw of 31-feet taking home third place. In the discus, Finley went 61-feet-2 and McBrian wasn't far behind at 78-feet-8 and in the long jump, Thai went 14-feet-7 for a personal best.<br />At the Don Webb Invite Monday at Benton High School, Buchanan was first in the high jump, clearing 5-feet-4 for a first place finish.<br />Also in the field events, Thai went 14-feet-5 in the long jump, while McBrian had a heave of 81-feet-8 in the discuss and Finley threw 60-feet-1. In the shot put, McDaniel had a throw of 32-feet-2 and Finley wasn't far behind at 31-feet.<br />In the 110 high hurdles, Kylah Rogers had a time of 19.3, while Thai turned in a time of 13.5 in the 100 meter dash and Aruniti Manawa crossed the line at 17.5. In the 200 meter dash, Buchanan had a time of 24.4 and Ballard ran a 32-flat. Thai had a time of 1:13 in the 400 meter dash, while Laurencio (2:40) and Boyles (2:48) ran the 800 meters.<br />The girls' track and field team is slated to run at today's (Friday) Marion Invite, along with the host Wildcats and Carbondale High School.
