Goodley girls still in the hunt

Ashton and Taylor Goodley could have had better days, but did position themselves in the Top 30 of the field at Monday's Ohio Valley Conference women's golf championship at the Hampton Cove course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Owens Crossroads, Alabama.<br />Ashton Goodley finished her day tied for 20th with a first day 77. Goodley's day started with a bogey on No. 1 and doubled to three-over after a double bogey on No. 4. A bogey on No. 6 and No. 7 put her at five-over before she got a shot back with a birdie on No. 9. On the back side, Goodley had three birdies (No. 13, 14 and 15) with bogeys on No. 12 and No. 16 and a double on No. 10 to finish her day at five-over.<br />Taylor Goodley good start, which had her had one-under after three holes, grew to two over after the end of her front nine after recording three bogeys on No. 5, 6 and 8 en route to a 79 and a tie for 28th Monday.<br />On the back side, Goodley bogeyed No. 10 and recorded a double bogey on No. 11 and 12 with a bogey on No. 14. She was able to salvage some of her round with a birdie on No. 15 to finish her round.<br />As a team, Austin Peay&#160; is in fifth place at plus-15 (303) on the day. Eastern Kentucky and Murray State each established a new OVC Championship single round score with team totals of 286 and share the lead after Day One of the 2017 OVC Women's Golf Championship.<br />The round of 286 (2-under par) broke the previous record of 291 established by Morehead State in 2011 at GreyStone in Dickson.&#160; The Colonels and Racers are 14 shots ahead of third-place Jacksonville State (+12). Morehead State (+14) and Austin Peay (+15) are fourth and fifth while Belmont (+24), Tennessee Tech (+28), Tennessee State (+45) and Eastern Illinois (+47) round out the standings.<br />On Monday night, Taylor Goodley earned her second straight All-OVC honors, joining a list of nine others. The All-OVC team included two seniors, two juniors, six sophomores, one of which was Goodley and a freshman.<br />The OVC Women's Golf Championship will continue with 18 holes of second round action on Tuesday.
