EHS, Gallatin Co., Galatia all pick up wins on baseball diamond

The Eldorado High School baseball team survived an 11-run fifth inning from Pope County to out hit the Pirates 14-12 and win 18-16 Monday at the EHS Sports Complex.<br />Pope County didn't help their cause in the defeat, committing 10 turnovers on the day, while the Eagles had just two.<br />At the plate, Ben Byrd was 4-for-5 with five RBI and four runs to pace the Eagle offense. <br />Trey Vessel, Bryson Sigler and Payton Price all had two hits in the middle of Brad Drust's lineup as Vessel knocked in three runs and scored one. Sigler finished with two RBI and one run scored, while Price had an RBI and a run scored. <br />Max Kasiar, Jacob Traxler, Kolten Oglesby and Dalton White all had one hit as Kasiar had an RBI and three runs scored, Traxler had a home run with two RBI and a run scored, while Oglesby and White both had a run scored.<br />Kale Oglesby had three runs scored, while going 0-for-3 with a walk and Joe Mayberry scored two runs, while driving in one.<br />Mayberry got the start on the mound and went 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits. Mayberry walked six and struck out four.<br />Hunter Artman came in to give up seven runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking two. <br />White picked up the win for Eldorado with 2.2 innings of work, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.<br />Eldorado was to play at Union County, Ky., Tuesday evening and is set to host Benton tonight (Wednesday) at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, Eldorado will welcome Harrisburg for a 4 p.m. affair and on Saturday, the Eagles will play host to Vienna in a game starting at 11 a.m.<br /><strong>Gallatin County 8, Carmi-White County 7</strong><br />Gallatin County scored seven runs in the seventh inning to beat Carmi 8-7 Monday night at home.<br />Clay Pritchard was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Pritchard beat out an infield hit in the seventh inning with two outs to extend the inning. Audie Goebel was 0-for-3, but scored a run on a bases loaded double to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh and Wyatt Downen was 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Downen scored the winning run on a line drive down the right field line by Aaron Walters.<br />Garrett Rushing was 1-for-2 with two runs scored for the Hawks, while Robbie Prince was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.<br />Garrett Rushing worked two innings and allowed one run, while Robbie Prince pitched the third inning allowing one earned run. Downen then worked the fourth and fifth, allowing two earned runs, while walking three and striking out one.<br />Nathan Shults worked the sixth and seventh inning, allowing no runs, while striking out two.<br />Gallatin County was slated to host NCOE Tuesday and the Hawks will travel to Gallatin County on Thursday, before closing the week out against Massac County on Friday at home.<br /><strong>Galatia 12, Joopa 1 (6 innings)</strong><br />Ben Mitchell picked up the win for the Bearcats allowing one hit, while striking out four and issuing two walks in the season opener for Galatia.<br />Austin Stevens went 2-for-3 at the plate with a single, double and one walk. Cooper Patterson was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.
