Harrisburg splits at own Saturday Invitational

The Harrisburg softball team lost its first game of the season in a weekend split against Galatia and Crittenden County, Kentucky. <br />Harrisburg lost to Crittenden 5-1 before rebounding and beating its neighbor to the north, Galatia 8-1.<br />In the loss to the Rockets, Harrisburg had just four hits as Gillian Jones went 2-for-2. McKenzie Sullivan drove in the lone RBI with a 1-for-3 performance at the plate, while Karsyn Davis was also 1-for-3.<br />Alli Ferrell worked seven full innings for the Bulldogs, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits, while striking out three and walking one.<br />In the win over Galatia, Ferrell picked up the win to move to 2-1 on the year. The sophomore went the distance, while allowing no earned runs on four hits. She struck out four and walked one.<br />Galatia's Dani Reynolds earned the loss, going six strong innings, as the junior allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, while striking out two and walking four.<br />At the plate, Harrisburg had eight hits on the day and were paced by Sullivan's 2-for-2 performance with two RBI. Abby Dalton was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Madeline Rider and Essence Sanders both had an RBI and a hit. Davis and Ferrell also had a hit.<br />The Bearcats got a base hit from Brittany Hutchison, Kennedy Harris and Maddy Murphy. Harris had the lone RBI for Galatia.<br />Harrisburg is now 2-1 on the season and will play at Pope County Thursday. The Bulldogs will close out the week at Eldorado on Friday and play host to Goreville and Marion in another doubleheader Saturday.<br />Galatia hosts Herrin Monday and travel to Carrier Mills-Stonefort Tuesday. The Bearcats will then welcome Gallatin County on Thursday.<br /><strong>FRIDAY</strong><br /><strong>Harrisburg 6, Hardin County 3</strong><br />Alli Ferrell picked up the win in the circle for Harrisburg, going the distance in a 6-3 non-conference win for Harrisburg over Hardin County.<br />Ferrell faced 25 batters and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, while striking out four and walking two.<br />At the plate, McKenzie Sullivan was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two triples to pace Harrisburg. Gillian Jones was 2-for-3, while Karsyn Davis and Essence Sanders each had a hit and both provided RBI's for the Bulldogs.<br /><strong>Galatia 13, Wayne City 2 (6 innings)</strong><br />Maddi Ladd picked up the win in the circle and improved to 2-0 on the year. Ladd worked three innings, allowing no hits while striking out three and walking two. Leah Davis came on in relief and worked three innings, striking out four and walking two, while allowing two unearned runs.<br />At the plate, Maddy Murphy was 3-for-3 with a single, double, triple and 3 RBI, while Katie Ramsey was 2-for-2 as Galatia improved to 2-0 on the season.<br />Makayda Irvin and Kennedy Harris were both 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
