Prep Wrestling: Top Level Performance

The Harrisburg High School wrestling took finished sixth out of 16 teams at the Rich Lovellete Panther Tournament over the weekend in Litchfield.

Lena Winslow won the tournament with 221 points, while Orion (172), Auburn (155), Vandalia (152.5) and Litchfield (126) rounded out the top five.

Harrisburg (107), Anna-Jonesboro (103), Taylorville (76), Murphysboro (70) and Carlinville (63) made up the bottom 10.

“We had a pretty good day this past Friday and Saturday against some tough competition,” Harrisburg head coach Greg Langley said. “The kids wrestled well for the most part and gave some great efforts. We hope to build on our effort this past weekend and carry it over to the Regional, which is this Saturday at West Frankfort.”

Harrisburg had a second place finish, that went to Kody Cavender (132) who fell to Lena Winslow’s Hunter Luke with a fall time of 2:56.

Kyle Cavender (126) had one of two 3rd place finishes, beating Orion’s Trent Scharpman by a 6-0 decision and Chandler Bowling (138) beat Taylorville’s Will Cruikshank with a fall at 4:34.

Jimmy Hicks (145) had one of two 4th place finishes, the other went to Ryan Ragsdale (182).

Landon Hicks (120) and Chase McDaniel (285) each finished fifth for the Bulldogs.
