Prep Golf: Moving On

The weather was picture perfect Tuesday at the IHSA Class 2A Golf Regional held at Kokopelli Golf Course.

The play of Harrisburg's duo Garrett Jenkins and Camden Schiff was almost just as good.

Jenkins finished third overall, shooting a 76 on a day that included two birdies and 10 pars. The senior shot a 37 on the front nine and followed that up with a 39 on the backside.

Schiff went 43-43 for an 86 Tuesday. He had one birdie and six pars and finished tied for seventh.

Jenkins played on last year's Harrisburg team that qualified for sectionals. Harrisburg head coach Steve Black said Jenkins' season average is just over 37 for nine holes.

"He hit the ball very well," Black said. "He had a couple three-putts but he played solid. He played very well. It's a hard golf course, a very difficult golf course."

Black was also impressed with how Jenkins played Tuesday on a tougher golf course.

"It's his senior year and it's real important to get to sectional and hopefully have a good round there," Black said. "For him it wasn't a great day for him today but certainly wasn't a bad day."

The pair also qualified for the Mattoon Sectional which will be held next week.
