Prep T&F: Buchanan bright spot for Bulldogs

Harrisburg High School sophomore Bryleigh Buchanan was one of the bright spots for the Bulldogs Thursday at the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Track and Field meet at Herrin.

Buchanan, who has battled some injuries most of the season, grabbed first place in the high jump, clearing 5-foot.

Since her return, Buchanan has had a third place finish and two second place finishes before taking the top spot Thursday.

Franchesca Laurencno had a fourth place and sixth place finish as the sophomore finished in 1:06 in the 400 meter dash good enough for fourth place and ran the 200 meter dash in 29.3 for sixth place.

Also in the 400 meters, Tiffian Milligan crossed the line at 1:19.

Aruniti Manama ran the 100 meters in 18.2 and finished the 200 meters in 37 seconds.

Stephanie Chambers also ran the 100 meters, crossing the line at 16.8.

In the field event, Devin Jones had a personal best in the discus, with a toss of 81-feet-7 and finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 31-feet-11.5.

Makayla McBrian threw 29-feet-1 in the shot put and was sixth, while Arianna Boma had a toss of 62-feet-5 in the discus.

Harrisburg will play host to its own invitational on Monday at Taylor Field, starting at 4 p.m. and will compete in the IHSA Class 3A Sectional Friday at Mascoutah.
