JUCO Softball: Falcons dump Morthland

Mother Nature was kind enough to the SIC softball team - for just a little while.

The Falcons were able to knock off Morthland 16-4 Wednesday afternoon before an afternoon shower suspended the second game.

Marion's Harleigh Krumrey improved to 4-1 on the year, picking up the win in the circle as the Falcons moved to 14-11 overall and 6-8 in conference play.

Krumrey worked three innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits with striking out two and walking two.

Maddie Plemmons (Hamilton County) came on in relief and worked two innings, allowing one run on four hits.

At the plate, Emily Reed (Galatia) was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Krumrey went 3-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and two RBI. Maranda Chance (Vienna) Lyndsee Adams (Marion), Mikayla Thompson (Union County, Ky.) and Plemmons all had multiple hit days, while Elizabeth Sloan (Galatia) and Josie Garduno (Massac County) each had one hit.

On Tuesday, SIC lost a pair of Olney Central as Eldorado's Michaela Laswell started both games and lost both, falling to 5-5 on the season.

Chance and Adams each had two hits in the 11-2 loss, while Sloan, Chance and Harrisburg's Whitney Younger both had a pair of hits in the 9-5 loss with Younger and Sloan both driving in two runs.

SIC also posted a split against John A. Logan College wining 14-6 and losing 7-2.

Late last week, SIC won7-4 and 17-9 at Frontier College.

In the 7-4 win, the Falcons scored all their runs in the fifth inning.
