GIRLS GOLF: DHS's Ferguson, PCHS's Carlson qualify for Sectional

Du Quoin junior Marisa Ferguson and Pinckneyville sophomore Ellie Carlson both qualified for the Sectional tournament with their performance at Wednesday's Class A Girls Golf Regional at Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights.

Ferguson, also a Sectional qualifier a season ago for DHS, shot 88 to finish third among advancing individuals not on one of the top three teams at the Regional. The Lady Indians placed seventh of the twelve teams at Stonewolf with a combined four-person total of 488. Abigail Vancil (120), Hannah Werner (133) and Carlie Daffron (147) completed Du Quoin's team score.

Carlson shot 105 for her 18 holes, eighth amongst the advancing individuals. Her Lady Panther teammates Trista Ogilvie (117) and Erica Crews (131) also competed for PCHS.

Nashville mowed down the field by sixty strokes, finishing with a 338. Shawn Rennegarbe led the Hornettes with a 72, the top score of the day. Waterloo was second in the team race at 398, Okawville third at 409, and both teams will join Nashville at next Monday's Sectional at Effingham Country Club.

The Class A State Finals are scheduled for next Friday and Saturday, October 18-19, at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.
