"Godspell Jr." to be presented this weekend at SIC

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Despite scrambling for funding, "Godspell Jr." promises to be a great performance this weekend at the George T. Dennis Center for the Performing Arts.

SIC's budget troubles have forced the college not to fund summer productions. Parents and play supporters got together and formed the Junior Falcon Production Company, then put together funding for the play through donations by businesses and private individuals, Kathy Patton said.

The play is an ensemble production of the 1970s hit "Godspell" designed to get as many kids as possible involved in theater.

"It's basically the junior version of the original play for younger actors," director Danae Fuller said.

The set is, in a word, psychedelic, with garish patterns and late '60s or early '70s style. The set was designed by Promise Bradley

"We're doing it in the original '70s style it was done in," Fuller said.

"We have some really great music and some really great soloists."

A few of the soloists include Kristen Doty, Madeline Rogers and Alexsia Patton.

During intermission the younger kids are putting on a short musical production about Noah's Ark. Nick Mack plays Noah.

"We do this to give the little kids some stage time," Kathy Patton said. "They don't get much stage time in the main play."

-- Godspell Jr. will be presented 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center at SIC. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students.
