Five questions with ... Brett Allen, owner of Sloan Street Market

Q. Did you get your special eyewear for Monday's eclipse?

Allen: Yes. I have special eyewear. You HAVE to be careful.

Q. How concerned are you that North Korea and the U.S. will enter into war?

Allen: I'm not very concerned about it. Cooler, more intelligent heads should prevail.

Q. School has either resumed or is about ready to resume. How does that affect you, if at all?

Allen: I have a granddaughter starting kindergarten. That's pretty exciting. School starting affects Sloan Street Market in a positive way. Lunch time for at least the first semester is pretty hectic for 20 minutes or so every school day. Plus, football will be starting. The high school buys most of its concession food for football games here.

Q. The TV networks will feature their new fall season of shows beginning next month. What is your favorite show and why?

Allen: I have no clue about any "new" shows coming on. I watch less TV all the time. My all-time favorite sitcom is Seinfeld. "It's the best Jerry, the best."

Q. What do you miss the most from your childhood?

Allen: I wouldn't say I "miss" anything. I enjoyed doing so many things. I would say what I fondly remember the most are Khoury League baseball, Whiffle ball, and my dad getting me started at golf. He started playing golf when I was in second grade, so I started, too. That was a GREAT decision on his part. The things my dad got me hooked on, I can still do - golf, hunt and fish. I'd say he knew what he was doing.
