Dixie L. (Polance) Carnes

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Dixie L. (Polance) Carnes, 76, Greenfield, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, after a long illness. Born on July 15, 1934, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Jerry and Mabel (Gibbs) Polance. She attended Dorrisville School and Harrisburg High School.

Dixie married Dale W. Carnes, also originally of Harrisburg, on Jan. 2, 1954. During their 56 years of marriage, they lived in the Indianapolis area, and Dixie was a homemaker and mother of three. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was known for her hospitality, excellent cooking, generosity and kindness.

Surviving are her husband, Dale W. Carnes of Greenfield, Ind.; children, Pam (Rick) Beyers of New Albany, Ind., Cindy (Craig) Tammen of Greenfield, Ind., and Jerry (Debra) Carnes of New Palestine, Ind.; siblings, Mary Logsdon of San Diego, Calif., Patricia Johnson of Norris City, Kaye (Richard) Wiley of Fenton, Mich., and Linda (Bob) Holman of Norris City; grandchildren, Chad Beyers, Christy (Keith) Roberts, Michael and Ryan Tammen and Kendall and Evan Carnes; and one great-granddaughter, Riley Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Albert Polance, Jerry Polance Jr., Robert Polance, Emma McDermott and Joan Lane.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield, Ind., with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind.
