Glendel F. Butler

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Glendel F. Butler went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

He was born on June 28, 1927, to Verna and Clyde Butler of Harrisburg. He married Beverly Lands on Dec. 25, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1990. On June 14, 1998, he married Linda McNew, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by three sons, Steven Butler and wife Sherry of Reidland, Ky., Randy Butler and wife Edna of Galatia and Roger Butler and wife Beth of Sandwich; two stepchildren, Kristopher McNew of Carrier Mills and Lori Johnson and husband Scott of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Melissa Brummel and husband Keith of Franklin, Tenn., Mike Butler and wife Beth of Sandwich, Illinois, Becky Steiner and husband David of Thompsonville, Michelle Jackson and husband SSTG Michael of Clarksville, Tenn., Brandy Wall and husband Rod of Norris City; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Leonard Butler and wife Geraldine of Harrisburg and Conard Butler and wife Joann of Harrisburg; sisters-in-law, Peggy Gilliam and Dr. Vicki Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Glendel was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy. Winning many trophies, he was a semi-professional bowler and avid golfer. Glendel was a 32nd Degree Mason. He retired as superintendent of the Harrisburg Water Department. Glendel was a member of the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church where he enjoyed teaching the "Pairs and Spares" Adult Sunday School class. Glendel loved the Lord and "lived" his faith by helping others.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate; burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Harrisburg American Legion George Hart Post No. 167. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Masonic rites will be held at 7 p.m. and conducted by the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge No. 325. Memorials may be made in Glendel&#39;s honor to the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church and envelops will be available at the funeral home.
