Gerald Morris of Marion

Gerald W. Morris, age 73, resident of rural Marion, passed away 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020, as the result of an automobile accident on Illinois Route 13 at Paulton Road near Crab Orchard.

He was born on March 14, 1947, in Williamson County, Illinois, the son of the late Gaither Morris and Mary Howell Morris.

Gerald married the former Charlene Youngblood on November 26, 1965, and she survives.

He was a retired coal miner working for the Amax Coal Company for 33 years and a member of the Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard.

Survivors include his wife; Charlene, son, Gerry Morris of Evansville, IN., daughter, Beth Riley of Marion, grandchildren, Sean Riley of Chicago, Kaitlyn (Zach) Heard of Tuscaloosa, AL., great-grandchildren Iris Riley Heard and Rowen Lee Heard, brothers, Dennis (Lola) Morris, Rodger (Rene) Morris, and Kent (Cheryl) Morris, all of Marion, several nieces and nephews and his uncle,

Charles Howell.

He was preceded by his parents and his son-in-law, Ron Riley.

In accordance with Gerald's wishes, his body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard, with Rev. Chris Cutsinger officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.

Those planning to attend are asked to acknowledge the COVID-19 guidelines.

The family requests that flowers be omitted, and for those who desire, the preferred choice of remembrance would be memorials in his memory to the Crab Orchard HCE Scholarship Fund or to the Center Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.

Envelopes will be available at the church.

Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is assisting the family with arrangements.
