Mary Jane Lee, 79, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
Mary Jane was a member of and had worked as custodian for the Nine Mile Baptist Church in Tamaroa for over 40 years.
She volunteered at the Fairview Nursing Home. She enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, walking and being outdoors. She also enjoyed spending time with her two great-grandsons.
Mary Jane was born Dec. 17, 1939 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Floyd Allen and Mary Ellen (Marlow) Valier.
She married Harley William Lee on April 5, 1958 at the Paradise Baptist Church in Tamaroa, and he survives.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband of Du Quoin; one son, Harley Wayne (Patty) Lee of Tamaroa; three grandchildren, Nathan A. (Amy) Lee of Du Quoin, Matthew S. (Bekah) Lee of Creal Springs, and Shelby L. Lee and Juli Hammond of Centralia; two great-grandchildren, Logan Lee and Camden Lee; one brother, Stanley (Barb) Valier of Du Quoin; one sister, Francis (John) Milam of Du Quoin; one sister-in-law, Janice Valier, of Texas; and one brother-in-law, Jim Farmer, of Pinckneyville.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Margery Prior, Richard Valier and Ruth Ann Farmer.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Eric Drake officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Paradise Cemetery in Tamaroa.
Friends are invited to make memorials to Nine Mile Baptist Church or Paradise Cemetery. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
