Martha Pauline Althoff of Murphysboro

Martha Pauline Althoff, 98, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sept. 29, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born April 6, 1921 to Ernest and Eleanor (Michael) Kraft, in Carbondale.

On March 11, 1944, Martha married her best friend and love of her life, Edward Charles "Spike" Althoff, in Brownwood, Texas. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1990.

Mrs. Althoff was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. She was very active in the church, as she was a member of the alter guild and the evangelism committee and was in the choir.

She was a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, who loved and lived each day for her grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by two children, Robert Charles Althoff, LCSW, of Park Hill, Oklahoma and Cindy (Althoff) Stoll, LCSW, of Murphysboro; one daughter-in-law, Janet Althoff of Carterville; three grandchildren, Jeremy Stoll (Derick Hardy) of Texas, Kimberly (Nicholas) Stoll French of Washington, and Josh Stoll of Murphysboro; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Norah and Hunter, all of Washington; one brother, Richard (Barbara) Kraft of Moline, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Althoff is preceded in death by one son, Michael Edward Althoff, phD; a sister, Harriette Kraft Anderson; and her parents.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Murphysboro, with the Rev. Josemon Hoem officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
