DE SOTO -- Lois V. Stein, 87, of De Soto, passed away at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018 at Integrity Healthcare of Marion.

Lois was born on Friday, Jan. 23, 1931 in Du Quoin to Thomas and Marie (Fox) Smith. She was united in marriage with Carl W. Stein in Du Quoin in 1949. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2010.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Paula Stein of Pinckneyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Freida and Dallas "Derrill" Holder of Carbondale, Kathryn and Ron Bandy of De Soto, and Mary Kay and Brett Logan of Du Quoin; 12 grandchildren, Marcy McKinnies, Charlie Stein, Gene Bandy, Heather Adams, Gavin Stein, Kim Summers, Terri Worthen, Amy Bandy, Camlin Logan, Keelyn Stein, Jason Stein, and J.T. Bandy; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers-in-law, Edward Stein and Robert Wendling; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Georg and Lu Ann White; daughter-in-law, Doris Stein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind many friends, and her loving caregivers. For all their love and nurturing over the years, the entire family extends their wholehearted gratitude.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Carl; son, Charles William "Bill" Stein; and brother, Harold Smith.

Lois was a member of Christ Community Church of Murphysboro. She cherished each moment she could share with her beloved family which was central to her life. She leaves behind a legacy of values and lessons she lovingly bestowed on each family member drawn from the wisdom gained over a lifetime. These insights will be treasured forever and carried forward to future generations. She will forever be missed by her entire family and friends and will continue to live on in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Melissa Waterman officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral on Saturday at the de Soto City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be provided and accepted by Meredith Funeral Home.
