Janet Harris of Du Quoin

Janet Sue Harris, 67, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:57 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at the Evelyn's House in St. Louis.

Janet was born on Aug. 29, 1950 in Du Quoin, a daughter to Wilfred and Sarah May (McCrary) Owen, Sr. On June 3, 1967, she married Tom Harris in Du Quoin, and he survives.

She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She enjoyed coloring, reading, puzzles, genealogy and helping with the racetrack in Sparta.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Tom Harris of Du Quoin; a son, Shannon (Nicole) Harris of Du Quoin; two daughters, Stacy (Josh) Jones of Cottleville, Missouri and Salena Sue (Brandon) Bryant of Du Quoin; three sisters, Sara "Faye" Jones of Rice, Mary Ann (Don) Thomas of Rice, and Melba (Frank) Dunihoo of Rice; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Cailyn, William, Megan, Chelsi, Emmit, Janna, Jacy May, Kennedi and Brennon; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Chaycee, Mia, Gabriella and Fiona; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Thomas H. Owen, Ernel Allen Owen, William Dean Owen, Wilfred "Junior" Owen, Jr.; and two sisters, Virginia Lee Valentine and Shirley Ann Risley.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 7 with Kenny Owen officiating.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, from 3-5 p.m. Saturday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
