Richard Lee Disney of Galatia

GALATIA - Richard Lee Disney, 77, passed away at 10:07 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at his residence in Galatia.

Richard was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Muddy to Owen and Marie (Girot) Disney, who preceded him in death.

On Oct. 6, 1963, he married Henrietta Ratley, and she survives.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years in the 1st Cavalry. During that time, he served in Vietnam from February to October of 1968.

Richard was a serviceman for Westinghouse and later a coal miner.

He was a member of Harrisburg American Legion and an avid fisherman.

Richard was a deacon and song leader for many years at Long Branch Baptist Church. He dearly loved God, his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Disney of Galatia; two children, Cheryl Dwyer of Galatia and Brad Disney of Troy, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Erica Dwyer of Galatia and Jayda and Aden Disney of Troy, Tennessee; sister, Peggy Miley of Murphysboro; two brothers, Sam Disney and wife Brenda of Eldorado and David Disney and wife Katie of Ridgway; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mildred Walden and husband Howard of Harrisburg; brother-in-law, Ed Ratley of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Thelma Ratley of Morganfield, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Jill and Amy Disney; sister, Sue Coffee; brother-in-law, Richard Miley; and nephew, Mike Miley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Cottage Grove Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the National Guard, Harrisburg American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
