Virginia Nelson of Harrisburg

Virginia Nelson, 94, of Harrisburg, passed away on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at the Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.

Virginia Imogene Wiggins was born in Harrisburg on Oct. 28, 1922, to Beulah Latham Wiggins and John Guthrie Wiggins, Jr. She was the youngest and last surviving of seven siblings.

She married Charles H. Nelson on Dec. 18, 1940, and they had five children: Charles David, Roger Lee, Ronald Lynn, Donald Glenn and Stephen Eugene. All except Roger survive, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband Charles died in 1986.

Virginia worked for dentist Ronald Darnell and in her son David's law office. She was a lifelong member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Billy Dye Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the service time on Saturday.
