Charles Marron Dunning

Charles Marron Dunning, 85, of Carterville, and formerly of Okawville, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.

<span>Services for Charles will be held at a later date. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. </span>

<span>Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959or to the Carterville First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Pine, Carterville, IL 62918. </span>

<span>Charles was born on June 13, 1931, in Harrisburg, to William Harrison and Thelma (Marshall) Dunning. He married Mary Lee Barno on April 15, 1960, in West Frankfort. </span>

<span>He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lee Dunning of DeSoto; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Kevin Klasing; sons and daughters-in-law, John Harrison and Cynthia Dunning, Lee Charles and Stephanie Dunning; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Dick Carnett and Frances and James Xanders; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. </span>

<span>Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wendell Dunning; and sisters, Ruth Dunning, Mildred Kemp and Mary Ann Gates. </span>

<span>He honorably served our country in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict serving overseas in Japan. </span>

<span>Charles was a teacher and school administrator for the Okawville school district. </span>

<span>He was a member of the Carterville First United Methodist Church and the Okawville Lions Club. </span>

<span>Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. </span>
