McDonald's, Eldorado schools work together to raise money

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Eldorado high school students got a special treat Friday morning when a pie-throwing contest was held in the cafeteria as part of a "Give Back" campaign hosted by the National Honor Society.

Students have been raising money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities since Jan., and Friday's event was a celebration for students who participated. Students who collected the most donations had the opportunity to throw a pie at a teacher, coach or their principal.

National Honor Society members Nick Jones and Logan Boulds spearheaded the campaign for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and emceed the pie-throwing event.

Jones and Boulds presented a $1200 check to Ken and Debbie Haney, who own the McDonald's in Eldorado.

National Honor Society sponsor Diane Beasley said they chose to donate the money to the Ronald McDonald House Charities because the Haneys have been so supportive of Eldorado schools. Beasley said the campaign was especially successful because students were eager to compete against one another to raise funds.

"Kids really got on board with the class competition," said Beasley.

The senior class won the competition by raising the most money.

At first, only a few coaches, along with high school principal Ryan Hobbs, agreed to have pies thrown at them for the event, but in the spirit of the moment, other teachers and coaches joined in the fun.

In total, Eldorado students at the high school, middle school and the elementary school raised $5198 for charity.

"We're thrilled to death that in such a small community we were able to do so much," said Eldorado high school counselor JoAnna Lane.
