Bradley Conkle, 49, Rosiclare, was pronounced dead 4:20 a.m. by Coroner Jerry Watson.

At about 3:10 a.m., a white 1996 Kenworth and dump trailer loaded with coal driven by Conkle was southbound on state Route 34 near the Raleigh curve. For reasons not known, Conkle lost control on the curve and overturned, a preliminary crash investigation by the Illinois State Police indicated. The Kenworth was struck by a yellow 2000 International driven by Danny Brown, 35, Galatia. Brown drove off the right side of the roadway and rolled the International on its side. The Kenworth was then struck by a blue 2004 Western Star with dump trailer driven by James Farmer, 52, Harrisburg.

Brown was taken to Harrisburg Medical Center and later to another hospital by emergency helicopter with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to an Illinois State Police news release. Farmer was treated and released at HMC.

Saline County Sheriff's Deputies, Harrisburg Police and Eldorado Police responded initially to the scene. The Illinois State Police were then called in to investigate the crash.

The section of state Route 34 near the crash was closed to traffic until 12:30 p.m. Bishop's Towing of Harrisburg and Verneil's Towing of Marion removed he vehicles and debris. The Eldorado Fire Department was called to the scene while the diesels were removed from the highway as a precaution against chemical or fuel spillage.
