Minor attic fire extinguished

Firefighters arrived at 6:31 p.m. with 17 men and had the fire out in about 35 minutes with very little damage done to the house, Fire Chief Mike McKinnies said.

The Deboses came home and investigated an electrical problem involving a kitchen light fixture.

"They pulled the light fixture down and the fire was behind it in the attic," McKinnies said.

The blown in insulation was smoldering and firefighters had time to lay down tarps to catch debris that fell as they sawed into the attic using a reciprocating saw.

"I'm glad they actually checked," McKinnies said.
