Sheriff handing out $500 scholarship
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown will be giving away a $500 scholarship from the Illinois Sheriff's Association.
The ISA awards over $53,000 in scholarships throughout the state to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2012-2013 academic year, according to a release from the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees and the student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning in Illinois.
The candidates must be permanent Illinois residents.
Applications are available at the sheriff's office or on the Internet at http://www.ilsheriff.org.
Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the sheriff's office by March 12.
