SHAWNEETOWN —
On Thursday afternoon a meteorologist from the National Weather Service Paducah completed a storm survey, for the May 23 and May 25 severe storms, that skipped across Gallatin County.
Rick Shanklin, of the NWS Paducah completed his survey and determined that the Monday May 23 event was an EF1 tornado, according to a press release from Gallatin County Emergency Management Agency. An EF1 tornado has an estimated wind speed between 86 to 110 mph.
The storm May 23 damaged numerous buildings along a path from west of Junction to the northeast of Shawneetown. Several spotters reported seeing a funnel cloud in the Shawneetown area during the storm.
On Wednesday May 25 another severe storm did damage to the Gallatin County School. This storm was declared a microburst. This storm began near Equality and ended near the school, with a peak wind of 90 mph, according to the storm damage report.

No one was injured due to the storms and everyone is encouraged to have a NOAA weather radio.
