For the first time since April 11, the Ohio River at Old Shawneetown is finally below flood stage, according to a release from Gallatin County Emergency Management Agency.

The Ohio River crested at 56.9 feet on May 6 and for the past 54 days the Ohio River has been at or above the flood level. There was a 14 day period, right before the historic flooding, that the river was below flood stage, but the Ohio River was at major flood level nearing 48 feet from February 27 through March 28.

This year's flooding set the second highest crest at Old Shawneetown and was only exceeded by the flooding of 1937 when the crest was 65.64 feet.

The Ohio River is forecast to continue to fall and be near 21 feet by next Thursday.

The Ohio River Sweep is scheduled for June 18 and the location for the sweep in Gallatin County is Old Shawneetown.

Clean-up supplies are still available at the Shawneetown Fire Department at 111 East Posey Avenue and also at the Salvation Army at 10 West Locust in Harrisburg. Donations are still being taken at the Salvation Army for flood relief.
