HARRISBURG-- Two classrooms in the Harrisburg school district are piloting the use of iPads for instruction, thanks to a grant written by Media and Technology Coordinator Cindy Black.
GALATIA -- As technology changes, so must school district policy. Galatia Junior High/High School Principal Matt Hickam introduced to the school board a first reading of a new policy to be placed in the student handbook regarding electronic reading devices during Thursday's meeting.
HARRISBURG -- Ten teams have signed up for the Fifth Annual Dollars for Scholars Bowling Tournament beginning 1 p.m. Feb. 12 at Ross Cottom Lanes in Harrisburg.
HARRISBURG -- The Saline County Spelling Bee lasted nine rounds as Eldorado eighth-grader Alex Jones and Harrisburg sixth-grader Darren Harrison spelled an increasingly tricky list of words correctly.
WEST FRANKFORT — President and founder Dr. Tim Morthland made the formal announcement Friday afternoon that Morthland College, a Christian college located in West Frankfort, will implement an intercollegiate athletic program effective immediately for the 2012-13 academic year.
CARRIER MILLS-- Members of Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School's Homecoming Court is preparing for the Homecoming Dance.
HARRISBURG-- Budget cuts were the major topic of discussion at the Tuesday’ Harrisburg Unit No. 3 school board meeting. Superintendent Dennis Smith rolled out a plan to cut a necessary $550,000 out of next year's budget, but his plan was met with some concerns from students and parents.
GALATIA -- Galatia Elementary School pupils caroled to a packed gym Wednesday, ending their fall semester with the school's annual Christmas program.
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- At 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Harrisburg Middle School there will be a county spelling bee of two students from each of the county's four district's competing, but the winner will not necessarily be moving up to the Tri-State Spelling Bee in Evansville, Ind., this year.
HARRISBURG-- The Harrisburg School Board met last night for their regular December meeting. The board spent a good portion of the meeting again discussing options for renovating or rebuilding the high school.
ELDORADO -- Eldorado school administrators will soon have a new tool for handling the problem of bus mischief. The board approved during Thursday night's meeting the purchase of 12 cameras that should prove or disprove reports of bullying and other bus misbehavior.
GALATIA -- Galatia school board spent much of the open session during Thursday night's meeting planning for improvements to the grounds at the high school.
The Harrisburg School Board met last night for their regular November meeting. Reports were made by principals of each school in the Unit No. 3 school district, the annual audit was approved by the board and the resolution estimating tax levy amounts for the 2011 tax year was approved by the board.
ELDORADO — Eldorado pre-kindergarten pupils and their parents will be having a special Thanksgiving dinner Thursday night. Every person who attends the event is asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Choisser Food Kitchen in Eldorado.
CARRIER MILLS-- The 18th annual Veteran's Day Program was held Thursday morning at the Carrier Mills Elementary School, and as usual, did not leave attendees disappointed.
HARRISBURG — Southeastern Illinois College on Thursday celebrated and honored the veterans on the campus and, for the kids, a look at a Humvee and the opportunity to meet a soldier.
HARRISBURG-- The Harrisburg Middle School Student Council is holding a “pink-out” basketball game at the middle school Monday night. They raised money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation through selling pink T-shirts for $12, which also will be available at the game.
HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg Middle School will be putting on their fall play Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Karen McKlusky is directing the play, and has big hopes for the performance, which tells the "true" story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
HARRISBURG — West Side Primary School in Harrisburg held a “story character day” Friday to promote reading. Pupils and faculty were invited to dress up as their favorite character from a book.
ELDORADO -- Wilbur Fowler retired from the Eldorado Board of Education earlier this spring after having served the district for 33 years. Friday, State Rep. Brandon Phelps met Fowler and his family at Eldorado High School's cafeteria to honor him with House Resolution 472, recognizing Fowler's service as a piece of state history.
