The Carrier Mills Village Board spent much of Thursday's meeting discussing the condemnation of a building on Oak Sreet. The owner of the structure, Billy Stone, was sent a certified letter on Sept. 14, notifying him that if the building was not repaired within 15 days of receipt of the letter, the building would be condemned and demolished. No response was given from Stone at that time, so a complaint was filed in court by village attorney, Fred Turner.

However, Stone made an appearance at last night's meeting and told the board he planned to repair the building, which was deemed a health hazard by the Egyptian Health Department. Dec. 21st is the last day for Stone to respond to the complaint made in court. He said he plans to go to the courthouse Monday to address the issue.

Board members voiced concerns about the safety of the building in the meantime, because many people walk on the sidewalk next to the building and bricks have apparently been falling off the building onto the sidewalk. Turner said the building would have to be repaired within a reasonable time period, but if Stone can prove in court that he will be able to make the repairs within that period, the judge would most likely agree to let him remain in the building.

During the meeting:
- Ron Roberts Engineering was unanimously chosen by the board to continue to provide engineering for the village of Carrier Mills in the year 2012.
- The board agreed to loan the Carrier Mills Fire Department $5,000 for a new used fire truck recently purchased by the department, in addition to the $5,000 the board already agreed to give the department for the truck.
- A pre-employment contract for city workers was discussed by the board. The contract will most likely require workers to reimburse Carrier Mills for any training they receive if the employee does not work for the city for at least three years.
- The flood plain ordinance recently passed by the Saline County Board was unanimously approved by the village board.
