The Carrier Mills Village Board interviewed and hired two applicants for part-time Street and Alley Department jobs at a special meeting Tuesday night.
Justin Hughes was hired to a job that begins April 1 and may end in October. Erik Wolf was hired for a position that will begin in June and end in October.
The jobs pay $9 per hour. Several applicants attended the interviews, which were held in closed session.
The board also agreed to buy a new truck for the Street and Alley Department. The truck is a 2006 Chevy Work Truck that cost $6,000 plus the old truck. The old truck was a 1996 model with 137,000 miles and several issues, department Chairman David Kyle said.
"It's not even safe to drive at this point," he said.
There is enough money in the Street and Alley Equipment Depreciation Fund to pay for the truck.
A proposal by the fire department to add junior firefighters to the roster was tabled until the village's liability company, Bliss-McKnight, can weigh in on the policy.
Junior firefighters are under 18 and do not fight fires. They help out at fires and assist in cleanup afterward, Mayor Louis Shaw said.
"Our fire department proposed bringing on some junior firefighters, primarily as a recruiting tool," Shaw said.
