<b>Bost has office job for wounded veteran</b>
U.S. Rep. Mike Bost will hire a wounded warrior or medically-retired veteran from the 12th congressional district, to engage in community outreach and act as a facilitator between constituents and federal, state and local agencies. The position is funded by the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program, established by the U.S. House to provide employment opportunities for wounded or disabled veterans. Applicants must be honorably discharged from the military within the past five years, have terminal pay grades at or below E-5 or O-3, have 20 pecent or greater service-connected disabilities (waived if you have a Purple Heart). Veterans who have a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization retirement are not eligible. The job will be located in Bost's O'Fallon or Carbondale district office. <b>SWIC-Red Bud hosts annual poet contest</b>
The Southwestern Illinois College Red Bud Campus once again will host its annual poetry contest for area students and residents this spring. All ages are invited to showcase their creative abilities. Divisions are adult, high school, eighth grade, seventh grade, sixth grade, fifth grade and fourth grade. Submit one poem only by 4 p.m. Feb. 26, along with a completed entry form. Entry forms are online at swic.edu/poetry-contest> and should be mailed to Amy Brockman, 2500 Carlyle Ave., Belleville, 62221 or turned in to the SWIC Red Bud Campus Student Development Office, Room 175. First, second and third places will be awarded in each divison at 7 p.m. April 23 in the Performing Arts Room. Winners will be asked to share their poem during the ceremony. <b>Randolph County Sheriff to award $500 scholarship
Randolph County Sheriff Shannon Wolff will award a $500 scholarship to a Randolph County student who will pursue higher education in 2019-20. This is part of $53,500 in scholarship money being given out all over Illinois by the Illinois Sheriffs' Association. Scholarships will be applied to tuition, books and fees only, and the recipient must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning in Illinois. applicants must be permanent Illinois residents. Applications are at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office or on the internet at www.ilsheriff.org.. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff's Office by March 15.
<b>Local students make President's List</b>
Three McKendree University students from Randolph County have been named to the school's President's List for achieving perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the fall 2018 semester. They are Monica Kunkel of Red Bud, Margaret Schnoeker of Coulterville and Claire Wiegard of Evansville.
