Memorial Day: Local ceremonies

SALINE COUNTY - Local communities will honor servicemen and women Monday at ceremonies honoring Memorial Day. In Harrisburg, the ceremony is at 10 a.m. at Sunset Lawn Cemetery's Veterans Memorial, located at the south end of the cemetery.

The event will feature a flag presentation by Harrisburg Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, a wreath-laying by Michael Hillegas Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, singing by Teresa Pankey, better known as Mama T, and a Memorial Day message from the Rev. Keith Ital.

Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek will open the ceremony.

Harrisburg American Legion George Hart Post 167, which sponsors the program, then will have dinner after at the Legion.

In Eldorado, a program sponsored by the Eldorado VFW and the Eldorado American Legion will be at 10:50 a.m. at Wolf Creek Cemetery. There will be a placing of a memorial wreath, a salute to fallen comrades, a moment of silence, the playing of "Taps," and a benediction by the Rev. Russell Helton.

Lunch will follow at the Eldorado VFW. In the event of rain, the program will be at the VFW.
