Galatia Class of 2019 graduates

GALATIA - Members of the Class of 2019 graduated Friday at commencement in Galatia High School's gymnasium.

Member of the class were recognized for several achievements, including those who were honor students. Two, including salutatorian Allen Dean Marvel, were recognized for also graduating with an associate degree from Southeastern Illinois College.

In his salutatorian address, Marvel thanks his parents and family, along with those of classmates.

"Without all of your love and support, we would not have made it to this moment," Marvel said.

Valedictorian Cameron Michael Triplett said in retrospect, time seemed to have passed rapidly for him and his classmates.

"First off, I have a very important question to ask: Where has the time gone?" he asked.

"It seems like yesterday it was the first day of kindergarten and my parents made me stay behind with complete strangers," he joked.

Galatia High School Principal John Cummins told graduates that while high school graduation is an important milestone, it's not the final chapter in a person's life.

"This is an important step, but don't make this the most important day in your life," Cummins advised. "There are other adventures awaiting you. Continue your education. It will open doors."
