Former Eldorado grade schooler recovering from severe burns

ELDORADO - A former Eldorado Grade School student is recovering from severe burns, and the school system and local community are trying to help her and her family.

Shayne Renfro was a student in Eldorado before recently moving to Springfield, according to Eldorado Superintendent Ryan Hobbs.

Earlier this month, word was received at the grade school that the young lady had suffered burns to more than 40 percent of her body, Hobbs said. It is unclear how Shayne was injured.

Hobbs said Shayne's former principal, Blake Bradley, already has delivered more than $400 raised by her former classmates and their families to help offset the family's expenses. The grade school continues to raise money to donate to Shayne's family.

In addition, cards and letters from her former classmates and teachers also have been sent to help raise her spirits, Hobbs said.

According to family members, Shayne has undergone multiple surgeries and will continue to have surgeries as she recovers.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help defray expenses for the family.

In the meantime, Hobbs said the Eldorado school district will continue to do what it can to help support its former pupil.
