Man with rifle robs Pankeyville gas station

SALINE COUNTY - Saline County Sheriff James "Whipper" Johnson says his department is looking at "any and all leads" after an armed man robbed a Saline County gas station Sunday night.

Johnson said the male carried what appeared to be a semi-automatic military-style rifle during the robbery, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Hathaway One Stop, just south of Pankeyville along Illinois 34/145.

He also said the suspect stole about $400 in cash from the store.

Johnson said he and deputies continue to investigate leads from the public.

"We've had all kinds of calls from people, and we're checking out every one of them to try to find the individual who did this," he said.

The suspect escaped on foot heading south. There were no injuries. Security footage of the incident may be viewed on the Hathaway One Stop Facebook page.
