Harrisburg Kiwanis Club hosts HHS administrators

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg Kiwanis met at Ponderosa on Dec. 19 for its weekly meeting. Marvin Teckenbrock introduced Scott Dewar, Harrisburg High School principal, and Randy Smithpeters, assistant principal and head basketball coach, as guest speakers.

Dewar opened with a brief discussion of some of the recent academic and sports accomplishments.

One of the biggest announcements to the club was the fact that the school district is now solvent.

Because of the new school funding formula, all students will receive free lunches for a year plus no student fees, book rental, nor athletic fees.

Smithpeters then reviewed new Illinois High School Association classifications for football and basketball, which should help to "level the playing field."

He also indicated that the renovation and additions to the high school are complete.

Both Smithpeters and Dewar indicated that everyone is welcome to visit the high school and tour to see all the improvements.

The Kiwanis Club agreed to meet at the high school Jan. 9 for the monthly business meeting.
