Terrier tennis Terriers topple Marion in tennis match

Carbondale's Sophie DiBiase showed why she's one of the top tennis players in the area in leading the Terriers to a 6-3 victory over Marion on Tuesday at the Crisp Sports Complex.

DiBiase rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Marion's Nicole Szidik in the No. 1 singles match and also played with Audrey Meador at No. 2 doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marion's Kelsey Watson and Margaux Bruce.

Meador did not play singles but three of her Carbondale teammates, not counting DiBiase, gave the Terriers a commanding 4-2 lead after singles.

Carbondale also got wins from Seungjoo Moon (6-0, 6-3 over Carrie Graham), Heather Robinson (6-0, 6-0 over Watson) and Shraeya Patel (4-6, 6-1, 11-9 over Sophia Arnold).

Marion's singles wins came from Bruce, who swept Aditi Kumar 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, and from Ana Cuartas at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Katie Brown.

In doubles, Cuartas and Szidik crused to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Moon and Robinson, but the win from DiBiase and Meador clinched it. Carbondale's Mia Newman and Kumar added a point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Arnold and Paula Diederich.

Marion's team record moved to 3-4 in dual matches with the loss.</group><group id="D5E16700-39F6-47B6-A293-8B11B705FC99" type="seoLabels"><seoLabels>
