SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- September is Hunger Action Month, an opportunity to raise awareness and take action to address hunger in our communities.
Wabash Christian Village will host a food drive Sept. 7-21 to benefit New Beginning Church of God's Hands of Compassion hot meal program and Cherry Street General Baptist Church's food pantry.
All types of unexpired food will be accepted, including fresh fruit and vegetables, toiletries and cleaning products.
Donations may be dropped off at each of our locations: Wabash Christian Village, Wabash Christian Heritage Apartments, Wabash Christian Supportive Living or Wabash Christian Therapy.
The needs for our small community are great. Hands of Compassion serves meals to about 1,000 people each month and the food pantry serves 175 people monthly. Both programs are funded by donations and run by volunteers from their churches. Hands of Compassion serves meals every week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. The Cherry Street Baptist church's food pantry is open from 9-11 a.m. the first and third Thursday of each month.
For more information about the food drive, please contact Lora Carlson, Wabash Christian Village's Activity Director, at email@example.com or (618) 382-2944.
