Water, sewer rates going up in Tamaroa

The April 11 meeting of the Tamaroa Village board of trustees opened at 6 p.m. with the pledge to the flag, which was followed by roll call and the reading of last month's meeting minutes.

The main topic of discussion was the raising of water and sewer rates in town. Officials say the increase is necessary because Tamaroa's source for water, the Rend Lake Water District, is hiking the rates it charges the village.

The increase will go into effect with the next billing cycle. The base rate for both water and sewer will increase to $9.30 plus a $5 service charge for a total base billing amount of $23.60.

For any water and sewer usage after the base amount, customers will be charged 93 cents per 100 gallons, or $9.30 per each additional thousand gallons of water. The sewer rate will also increase.

Raffle winner

The raffle being held to raise money in memory of Bill Harris was drawn by Tiffany Kujawa, and James Carlson is the winner. Carlson won a vacation to Pensacola, Florida. He can take the trip either the week of Oct. 13-20 or Dec. 22-29.

The next village board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. May 9.
