Carrier Mills-Stonefort Math and Science Club participates in Engineering Day at SIU

CARRIER MILLS -- The Carrier Mills-Stonefort Math and Science Club participated in the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Engineering Day on Feb. 22.

Mr. David Klope, a CMSF High School math teacher, and Mr. Mike Eisenhauer, a CMSF High School science teacher, started the Math and Science Club at the beginning of the year to encourage students to go into the math and science fields after graduation.

At SIUC, the students were able to participate in four different challenges throughout the day. Project 1 was a bottle rocket design challenge, Project 2 was a truss design challenge, Project 3 was a trebuchet competition, and Project 4 was a speedboat race challenge. Abbey Zertuche, Abby Whiting, and Lauren Hancock finished in second place in the bottle rocket design challenge and Kale Rister, Billy Lewis, and Brandon Hambleton finished in third place.
