American Legion Post 169 to honor veterans

ELDORADO -- American Legion Post 169 will honor veterans Saturday on Veterans Day with a morning program and evening fundraiser for Honor Flight.

At 10:45 a.m, members will assemble in front of Watson Funeral Home on Locust Street and march to the veterans memorial at Old City Hall.

At 11 a.m., Legion board member Jerry Cain will open and emcee the event. The Rev. Russell Helton, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church will give the invocation.

The American flag will be raised, and Mike Phelps of Eldorado will sing the national anthem.

Wreaths will be placed by members of American Legion Post 169 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3479, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 169 and VFW Auxiliary Unit 3479, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 169, and Daughters of the American Revolution Michael Hillegas NSDAR - June Maloney.

A 21-gun salute to honor fallen comrades will be given by a joint honor guard firing squad, then "Taps" will be played.

U.S. Marine Cpl. Jeffery Robinson will give the Veterans Day address, and a benediction by Helton will follow.

Dinner for members and guests will follow at noon at the Legion building, 908 Fourth St. There will be a ceremony for all veterans with a special for Vietnam-era veterans.

A fundraiser for the next Honor Flight will follow from 5 to 8 p.m. with chairman Bryan Questelle.

The fundraiser is an all-you-can-eat pig roast buffet. It costs $10; $4 for children under 6. Live music by The Cruisers will be played during that time.
