Police chief: Increase in Harrisburg car burglaries

HARRISBURG – Harrisburg Police Chief David Morris wants local residents to be aware of an increase in car burglaries in the southern portion of Harrisburg and report any unusual activity to his department.

"There's been a rash of car burglaries, mostly in the south part of town, from Sloan Street to Barnett and between the Main Street to Granger area," Morris said. "People have left valuable items in their cars and not locked them."

He said in some instances, although unusual activity was seen prior to discovery of a car burglary, it was not reported to police.

Most instances have been at night, though some have been very early in the morning, Morris said.

He said his department has three young suspects in mind, though the investigation is continuing.

"If anyone sees or hears anything unusual, call us," he said. "We won't use your name. We just want information. If you hear a dog bark, unusual noises or see kids walking around late at night, let us know."

In the meantime, he urges residents to lock car and residence doors.

To report suspicious activity, call Saline County Central Dispatch at (618) 252-8661.
