Skimmers -- devices which can read a customer's credit card -- were found attached to gas pumps at two MotoMarts in Williamson County on Tuesday.

Employees with the Marion MotoMart, 2604 W. Main St., discovered a skimmer inside one of its pumps Tuesday.

A second skimmer was found at the Carterville MotoMart, 100 Plaza Drive, later that same evening.

Skimmers cannot be seen from outside the pump. Police urge customers to monitor their checking account and/or bank and credit card statements if they have recently bought gas from either facility.

In Carterville, pump no. 1's door seal was intact, so there was no way to tell it had been tampered with just by looking at the pump, according to Police Chief Heather Reno.

Reno said officials have not been able to ascertain how long the devices were in place, or how they were transmitting the credit card information -- and to whom.

The Marion Police Department asks anyone with information to call (618) 993-2124. In Carterville, the police can be reached at (618) 985-4853.
