Ron Herrin golf scramble raises thousands for charity

Several thousand dollars were raised last week from the annual Ron Herrin Golf Scramble at the Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort, started 14 years ago.

It raises money for McKendree University students.

Ron Herrin, whose younger brother is legendary southern Illinois coach Rich Herrin, died in 1997 at age 67. He won more than 500 games as a high school basketball coach.
