McPeek reminds city workers to stay at the job

HARRISBURG – Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek has been on the job for about two months, but he said Thursday that he's noticed a few things that bother him.

Namely, he wants city workers to spend more time on the job and less time visiting others.

"Since serving as mayor, I notice a lot of employees spend a lot of time in City Hall," McPeek said at Thursday's City Council meeting. "I understand that you have to come here for business – that's fine. We all have the same jerseys on. We all have the same purpose – that is service to the residents of the city."

He went on to add that city employees need to stay busy on the jobs at hand.

"We do not need to be hanging out at city hall or in city offices," McPeek said. "We need to be on the streets and visibly helping the public. We all have great jobs. We are all well compensated. Let's go out and show the public that we appreciate it."
