Daddy/daughter dance returns to Rent One

MARION - In advance of Valentine’s Day, fathers will have a chance to celebrate with the other ladies in their lives at the Sixth Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance at Rent One Park this weekend.

The festivities get under way at 6 p.m. Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s theme is “A Night in Wonderland,” inspired by the classic Disney film, “Alice in Wonderland,” which is itself based off of the Lewis Carroll novel.

Assistant General Manager Cathy Perry called it “a little bit of everything.”

According to Perry, the dance, which was created six years ago by an employee new to Rent One Park, has grown in popularity to the point where the decision was made to spread it out over two days.

“It gets a little crowded,” Perry said. “So we made the decision to spread it out over two days so that everybody can have room.”

Each day of the dance will feature light snacks, carriage rides (the cost is included in the ticket), and a “great” DJ who frequently holds contests to get the fathers and daughters more involved.

Perry said there is no age limit for the dance with married women occasionally bringing their fathers to participate. Though there is no age limit, Perry said that the common age of daughters who attend ranges from 4 to 9 years old.

“It’s a great experience for fathers and daughters to get away from the rest of the family for a while,” Perry said. “It’s so nice to see fathers interacting with their young daughters while they’re still young.”

Tickets for the Daddy/Daughter dance are $35 per couple, $10 for each additional child, and $5 to purchase a Daddy/Daughter photograph.
