Condred R. "Ray" O'Neal

RIDGWAY - Condred R. "Ray" O'Neal, 91, longtime Ridgway resident, passed on this life Nov. 12, 2016, in Harrisburg Medical Center.

Ray, as most knew him, was born in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, on July 8, 1925, to the late John Henry and Marie (Taylor) O'Neal.

He married Hazel (Krikie) on June 30, 1947, and she preceded him in death. He then married Geraldine Hendrix, who also preceded him in death.

A U.S. Army veteran, Ray served his country during World War II. He worked for many years before retiring at Whirlpool, and then started working at Eagle 2 coal mine and retired again. But his retirement didn't last long, as he continued to work around his home and helping others right up until his passing.

Ray liked to garden and fish, but he mostly liked to work. He was a very kind-hearted and caring person. He will be so missed.

Survivors include eight nieces, Rebecca Roberts, Carla Branch, Peggy Johnson, Nancy Hinkle, Mary Volberg, Hazel Potts, Mary Stone and Barb Hunt; eight nephews, Danny, Carl and Randy O'Neal, Carroll Harrellson, Frank O'Neal, Chris, Michael and Steven Dunk; half sister, Norma Dunk of Shawneetown; sisters-in-law, Marie O'Neal and Elizabeth O'Neal; and three stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Carl, Jim Bob and John O'Neal; sisters, Tilda O'Neal and Peggy Harrelson; and four nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Jason Sork officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Elmwood Cemetery near Equality. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home.
