Margaret "Janette" Stone

ELDORADO - Margaret "Janette" Stone, 91, formerly of Harrisburg and Sheridan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016. She passed away peacefully at her home with her daughter, Vicki, and grandson, Nathan.

Janette was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Harrisburg to the late Alvin and Mattie (Hubbard) Vaughn. She grew up in Harrisburg and moved to Sheridan in the early 1960s. She moved back to Harrisburg in 2000 and to Eldorado in 2013.

She married Shirley "Stoney" Stone in September of 1963, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1996. She was employed at Sheridan Correctional Center for 21 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Sheridan/Ottawa and American Legion in Sheridan, and later in Eldorado.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Behrens of Eldorado; son, Billy Bob Stanley (Robin) of Mazon; sister, Mary Ann Perkins of Trenton, Michigan; brother, Samuel (Kathryn) Vaughn of Eldorado; grandchildren, Nathan (Erica May) Behrens of Eldorado, Jos. (Tina) Grunstad IV of Washington, Cole (Hannah) Stanley of East Peoria, Blake Stanley of Alabama, Jennifer (Thad) Woolsey of Chicago and Dana (Matt) Hathorn of Morris; great-grandchildren, Rylee Grunstad, Adilita Woolsey and Memphis Hathorn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Frankie "Skipper" Stanley, who was killed in Vietnam in 1969; brothers and sister-in-law, Ross and Marilyn Vaughn, James "Henry" Marge Vaughn, John "Jay-Bird" and Elizabeth Vaughn, Kenneth "Dude" and Mary Ann Vaughn, Harry and Mary Vaughn; sister and brother-in-law, Jesse and Joseph LaBarbera; brother-in-law, Wm. Perkins; and sister-in-law, Charlene Vaughn.

Janette touched so many lives while she was here on this earth and loved everyone she and Stoney met. Her home was always open to family and friends, regardless of the circumstances, and she will be remembered fondly for her generosity and her love for family and friends.

She leaves behind some dear friends, Clyde and Donna Futrell, Neal "Mac" and Phyllis MacDonald, Florence Kepper, Carolyn Feazel, Janet Sullivan, Anna Mae Steapleton and Phillip "Pete" Newton; and special nieces, Kim Thaxton Upchurch and Casey Fritts.

Janette requested no services, but she loved and supported Disabled American Veterans, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, American Legion and Paralyzed Veterans of America. Memorials in her memory may be made to any of these organizations or any organization of the donor's choosing.

Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is handling arrangements of her cremation.
