Eldorado wins state grant for new sidewalk

New sidewalk along Routes 45 and 142 in Eldorado is coming, thanks to the city getting a state grant.

The new sidewalk will begin on the north side of Route 45, where the present sidewalk leaves off. It will be laid to Route 142 and then up the west side of 142 to State Street, said Mike Roberts, an engineer with Brown & Roberts Engineering in Harrisburg, and Eldorado's engineering consultant.

Eldorado trustees are happy that the grant has been approved, saying they've been surprised and encouraged by the number of people who use the sidewalk already installed along Route 45.

Eighty percent of the $275,000 project will be paid with the grant, 20 percent by the city.

Don't expect the new sidewalk to be laid soon, Roberts said, who added it might be a couple years out yet, as the state lets the contracts.

He said Eldorado is fortunate, in that only 33 similar projects were awarded grant funding this year.
