Ask Lisa: Cake mix cookies not hard at all

Q: Is there a recipe to make cookies from a dry cake mix?

— Gloria Depietro, Columbus, Ohio

A: Cake mix cookies are quick and convenient, and can produce a wide variety of flavors, from basic chocolate and vanilla, to red velvet, lemon and orange.

In general, add 2 eggs and 1/3 cup of cooking oil to the mix to create a cookie batter. For a softer cookie, you can add up to 1/4 cup of water or more oil (up to 1/2 cup).

Because cake mixes seem to be ever changing their sizes these days, you may have to experiment a time or two, depending on the brand of cake mix you are using, to determine the exact measurements of oil and/or water to achieve the results you desire.
